What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Research Fellow in Health Data Research position at University of Bristol - School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience?
The role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and talented clinician in kidney medicine to join the LifeArc-Kidney Research UK Centre for Rare Kidney Disease, a collaborative programme of work to bring trials and research to children living with rare kidney diseases. The data workstream of the Centre for Rare Kidney Disease aims to improve access to the National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR) for children with rare kidney disease, which will support data-driven research with meaningful clinical impact.
The successful applicant will join the data workstream, a multidisciplinary team of statisticians, clinicians and mixed-methods researchers across the UK Kidney Association (UKKA) and University of Bristol. They will support the delivery of the LifeArc-Kidney Research UK Centre for Rare Kidney Disease (also referred to as the UK Kidney Ecosystem) and support audit and research activity at the UK Renal Registry (UKRR). They will develop and carry out data-based research projects using data from RaDaR and/or the UK Renal Registry, presenting their findings at national or international meetings and publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals.
As part of this role, the successful applicant will be funded and supervised to complete a data-focused MD or PhD during the 3-year period, likely using RaDaR and/or UKRR data.
Part-time will be considered at a minimum of 0.8 FTE.
Hybrid working is available: days on campus to be discussed and agreed with line manager.
What will you be doing?
This post will provide 36-months of funding for a clinician to support the delivery of the LifeArc-Kidney Research UK Centre for Rare Kidney Disease data workstream whilst also establishing themselves as an independent researcher: developing research ideas and undertaking analyses using data from the UK Renal Registry and/or the National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR). In addition, the post-holder will present research findings at local, national and/or international meetings, prepare reports and communicate findings to stakeholders and lay audiences, and prepare and submit manuscripts for publication. They will work with the UK Renal Registry team to address clinical queries, support the collection and optimisation of routinely collected kidney data, identify priority areas for research and contribute to dataset specification development. They will contribute to the peer-review of data applications to use UKRR and RaDaR data.
The post-holder will be employed at the University of Bristol and will hold an honorary contract with the UK Kidney Association for this role.

The successful candidate will be capable, hard-working, motivated, able to take responsibility and work on their own initiative as well as within a team. Experience of designing and carrying out research is desirable. They will be GMC registered with a current licence to practice, with at least two years (ST/CT1-5) postgraduate medical training. They may or may not currently be enrolled in a formal postgraduate training programme. They will be able to manage their own workload and deliver projects on time. They will have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences.
