Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas School of Law announces a non-tenure-track contract faculty position to support and enhance the law school’s LL.M. Program in Agricultural and Food Law as an Assistant Director and Research Assistant Professor.

The AD will be expected to assist the Director of the LL.M. Program with all aspects of program needs, including recruiting, admissions, mentoring, career planning, and alumni relations. The AD will also teach agricultural and food law classes, advise the Journal of Food Law & Policy, and pursue agricultural and food law related grant opportunities. The AD will administer funded projects in compliance with professional and ethical standards while providing guidance to students who assist with the projects. The AD will work with the Program Director, the Program Manager, the LL.M faculty and the Graduate Legal Studies Committee to help chart the future direction of the LL.M. Program and related agricultural and food law work at the Law School.

Responsibilities

The position will be 30% program administration, 30% teaching, 30% research (including grant seeking and management), and 10% service. The AD will report directly to the Director of the LL.M. Program. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Assisting the Director with LL.M. Program administration and serving as Acting Director over the summer
  • Teaching food and agricultural law courses each semester with subject matter flexibility to meet the needs of the LL.M. and JD students
  • Pursuing funding opportunities for food and agricultural law projects, serving as the leader on funded projects, working with UA Research & Sponsored Programs, and adhering to all associated professional ethical compliance responsibilities
  • Developing research and experiential opportunities for students to participate in funded projects
  • Coordinating with other food and agricultural law initiatives, fostering collaborative relationships across the university and with partners beyond campus
  • Other duties as needed to advance the food and agricultural law work at the law school

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • JD degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Demonstrated expertise in agriculture and food law as evidenced by publications, presentations, or professional training or other relevant experience
  • Paid experience in university roles, including graduate assistantships and fellowships
  • Strong research writing skills and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to interact respectfully, collegially, and professionally with all people at all levels of responsibility
  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively within the law school, the university, and with external partners
  • Ability to maintain the highest ethical standards as they relate to all aspects of the duties of the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • LL.M. degree in agricultural and food lawfrom an accredited institution of higher education
  • Experience with grant-funded research
  • Demonstrated success in managing funded projects
  • Agricultural and food law teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work within a university administrative structure
  • A strong record of effectiveness and comfort in public speaking
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise student work, while fostering student confidence, professionalism, and development as a professional
  • Comfort working with students from varied backgrounds including work with international students
  • Competent and reliably meeting deadlines while managing multiple responsibilities effectively
  • Proficient with technology including computer and digital literacy, video conferencing, and social media
