Summary of Job Duties:

Responsibilities

The HRPP Manager is a high-impact leadership role responsible for the operational excellence and strategic growth of the human subjects research oversight framework at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. This role is designed with a phased leadership trajectory:

  • Phase 1 (Operational Foundation): The Manager will initially serve as the primary operational engine for the office. The immediate priority is clearing existing backlogs by serving as the primary Exempt Reviewer and lead Pre-Reviewer for all Greater than Minimal Risk and Expedited protocols.
  • Phase 2 (Strategic Transition): As internal efficiencies and turnaround times improve, the role will pivot toward high-level supervision, staff mentorship, and the expansion of the HRPP’s foundational infrastructure.

The Manager will spearhead the development of all HRPP SOPs and policies to drive AAHRPP accreditation readiness. This includes designing workflows, creating compliance infrastructure, and leading a comprehensive education campaign for the research community. This position is central to building a sustainable, accredited program and requires a candidate who can master the "daily grind" of reviews before scaling into proactive program leadership

This position is eligible for remote work with the requirement for occasional travel to the Fayetteville campus for key meetings, training, and community engagement.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least five (5) years of progressive experience in IRB administration or human subjects protection compliance
  • Expert knowledge of federal regulations (45 CFR 46, 21 CFR 50, 56) and their application

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP) or Certified IRB Manager (CIM) credential
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a lead role with demonstrated success in process design, comprehensive SOP and policy development, staff training, and mentorship
  • Direct experience with AAHRPP accreditation preparation or maintenance
  • Experience building an HRPP from the ground up, including policy and template creation
  • Experience with electronic IRB submission systems (e.g., Streamlyne)
  • Experience in an academic research environment
