Summary of Job Duties

This non-tenure-track Instructor-9-month position includes teaching in developmental, first-year, and intermediate composition; contributing to curricula and assessment; and participating in departmental, college, and university service and governance. This position may include teaching face-to-face and/or online. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience

  • Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, Technical Communication and/or Professional Writing, Creative Nonfiction, Public Administration, English, or other related discipline.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Prior composition teaching experience with an emphasis on first-year students
  • Experience teaching to a range of student backgrounds and learning styles
  • Organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Professional writing experience
  • Online or hybrid experience

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teaching in-person and online
  • Work positively with faculty, staff, students, and the community
  • Participate in department, university, and community service and governance including service on the department's Composition Committee, as well as assessment and professional development

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Teaching experience in a college setting
  • Ability to teach composition courses face-to-face and online
  • Appreciation for the variety of student backgrounds and learning styles and a commitment to student retention and success.
