Summary of Job Duties
The Area Coordinator is a full-time, twelve-month, non-classified staff member. The Area Coordinator (AC) is responsible for the direct daily operation of two assigned residential halls. The AC provides leadership and guidance, interprets and implements policies, supervises building staff, and supports the development of programs and operations of Campus Living. The AC reports directly to the Assistant Director for Residential Life and Education.
This position requires living on campus as a condition of employment, and the employee will be expected to be available for duty at designated times. It also requires after-hours emergency/crisis response and professional on-call.
This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience and knowledge of property management or university housing processes and administration.
- Master's Degree with an emphasis in Higher Education (or approved equivalent) and experience and knowledge of University Housing processes and administration.
- 1 to 2 years of professional housing/residential life work experience.
- Coordinate check-in and checkout of residents, including room changes for their assigned hall(s);
- Ensure the assigned facilities are ready for opening and closing;
- Supervise all assigned resident assistants and any assigned lobby managers;
- Maintain accurate records for residence hall key audits and paperwork;
- Review semester physical occupancy reports with the Assistant Director for Residential Life and Education;
- Responsible for overseeing the summer camp and conference and will serve as liaison to requestors;
- Has primary responsibilities for safety, security, and training for such in the assigned apartment complex;
- Serve in on-call rotation for Campus Living;
- Act as a liaison with the Department of Public Safety, local police, health and other emergency officials, and campus personnel;
- Assist in roommate/suitemate conflict mediations;
- Serve as hearing officer for the assigned hall(s) for housing policy violations and may be asked to hold appeal hearings if a conflict of interest arises in a case for another residence hall hearing officer;
- Participate in the Campus Living staff training committees and help coordinate training schedules;
- Participate in weekly professional staff meetings, HD meetings, and hall staff meetings.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and training of all building staff: resident assistants, lobby managers, and summer staff;
- Supervise and attend social and educational programming;
- Maintain accurate incident reports and information for student conduct;
- Make bi-weekly rounds of buildings in order to track maintenance issues and interact with staff;
- Participate in goal setting and planning for Campus Living;
- Participate in campus-wide committees as requested;
- Maintain and display high standards of ethical behavior in accordance with ACUHO-I standards and University guidelines;
- Provide after-hours and weekend response for student and facility-related emergencies as needed;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work with summer orientation;
- Participate in resident assistant (RA), graduate assistant (GA), and Campus Living Office staff selection;
- Coordinate coverage for Campus Living Office as needed;
- Work with Campus Living Hall social media for GAs and residents.
- Knowledge of generally accepted property management or university housing processes;
- Knowledge of fundamental housing legal issues and trends;
- Knowledge of basic counseling techniques and student group advising;
- Ability to maintain records and reports;
- Ability to administer the residential conduct process;
- Ability to mentor students in planning social and education programming;
- Ability to supervise student workers and full-time staff;
- Ability to speak in public;
- Conflict mediation skills;
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle;
- Knowledge of electronic media and ability to use technology to perform job duties.
