The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Production Stage Manager-Audio-Visual to be responsible for executing all aspects of Audio and Video operations and the coordination of technical elements for productions and events. This position manages stage operations, over-hire, stagehands, and crew. In addition, this position serves as Sound Board and Video Operator responsible for overseeing audio and video crews, facilitating audio and video load ins, maintaining technical department equipment, work areas, and other responsibilities as assigned. The production stage manager assists with stage setup and production, equipment needs, manages stage operations, manages over-hire, stagehands, and crew, provides general technology support, and has other responsibilities as assigned. This position provides technical services for live events, various programs, and meetings.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Maintains all audiovisual equipment according to manufacturing and UAB Capital equipment standards and a repertory lighting plot in all ASC venues based on current inventories. Documents and tracks all circuiting addressing and system configuration in cooperation with the Director.
  • Reviews artist technical riders with Technical Director to analyze requests to ensure audiovisual need are met for each ASC presented concert.
  • Assists in planning and implementing use of lighting or audio inventory as well as electric power, DMX distribution and signal routing. Oversees patching assignments of the control consoles based on the paperwork generated by the advance of the artist rider.
  • Builds and operates complex audio and lighting systems to meet the needs of a wide variety of events and productions. Develops lighting, sound and set change cues. Records the timing of each as it relates to the script and other aspects of the performance.
  • Serves as an adjunct to the director during rehearsals by recording the blocking and ensuring that cast members stay on script, have the requisite props and follow the blocking. Assists with the establishment of show rehearsal schedules and ensures that rehearsals run effectively and on time.
  • Controls all aspects of the performance by calling the cues for all transitions and acts as the communication hub for the cast and the crew. May call the show while other team members operate backstage to ensure actors and crew are ready to perform their duties. Makes decisions regarding the occupational safety and health of the workers in line with UAB/ASC policy and industry standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $20-$25

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Music Technology, Theater/Production, Audio/Visual or a related field and five (5) years of related work experience. Work experience may substitute for the education requirement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Work Characteristics

  • Knowledge and proficiency with digital mixing consoles, DANTE audio networks, Qlab, managing wireless microphones, producing audio recordings.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with projection, video switchers, live streaming, video conversion, PTZ camera systems, producing video recordings.
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications in Windows and Mac environments, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office 365 applications (OneDrive, Teams, etc), Qlab, OBS.
  • Working knowledge of networking A/V equipment.
  • Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing or balancing, working at heights, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Job occasionally requires lifting more than 75 pounds.
