Position Summary
The laboratory of Dr. Adrie JC Steyn in the UAB Department of Microbiology is seeking a dedicated Researcher Senior Lead to become the laboratory lead in an NIH-funded spatial multiplex immunofluorescence microscopy initiative focused on analysis of human and mouse tissues. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge multiplex tissue analysis using the Lunaphore COMET platform, which is comprised of a fully automated liquid handler and fluorescence microscope capabilities. This role is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented, technically proficient researcher. Training will be provided. The successful candidate will be tasked with maintenance and operation of the COMET instrument, optimizing antibody concentrations for immunofluorescence imaging of mouse and human tissue, data generation, data analysis, and assay troubleshooting.

- Maintenance and operation of the COMET instrument, optimizing antibody concentrations for immunofluorescence imaging of mouse and human tissue, data generation, data analysis, and assay troubleshooting.
- Order all reagents required for Lunaphore COMET operation and maintenance.
- Maintain and organize antibody stocks.
- Maintain and organize tissue samples.
- Interface with Lunaphore technical experts.
- Writing of results and methods sections for publication.
- Present research findings at regional, national, and international scientific conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Preferences
- Doctorate preferred in fields of microbiology, cell biology, immunology, biology, biochemistry, bacteriology, biomedical sciences, or closely related life science field.
- Understanding of mammalian tissue anatomy and histology
- Experience in immunohistochemical and/or immunofluorescent tissue analysis, brightfield and/or confocal microscopy
- Experience with Qupath, ImageJ, Visiopharm, Horizon, HALO, or similar tissue analysis or digital pathology software
- Experience operating complex analytical or imaging instrumentation
- Must have excellent computer skills
- Must be highly organized and detail oriented
- Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines
- Must be able to work as a member of an international team
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication
