General Responsibilities:
The Business Officer I supports departmental operations by performing a variety of administrative and financial tasks. This role supports departmental operations and ensures smooth workflow. Process contracts, payment requests, purchase orders, and P-card transactions. Supports faculty with the grant pre-award process, including proposal preparation and submission coordination. Coordinates events and travel arrangements for faculty, staff, and visitors. Prepares itineraries for guests/visitors, handles their travel arrangements, and provides on-site support by ensuring they arrive at scheduled meetings on time. Processes travel reimbursements accurately and in compliance with policies. Serves as a resource for facilities coordination and provides project support. Acts as a liaison between the department, central UAB offices, and external stakeholders. Supports faculty promotion processes and maintains related documentation. Processes human resource documents and ensures compliance with institutional guidelines.
This hybrid-eligible position requires the selected candidate to work 100% onsite during their initial six-month probationary period.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Process vendor payments, reimbursements, P-card transactions, and purchase orders in compliance with institutional policies.
- Serve as a liaison between the department and central UAB offices, departments, and external stakeholders.
- Reconcile departmental accounts and monitor expenditures.
- Prepare, review, and track contracts and agreements with vendors, consultants, and service providers in the contract management system.
- Serve as a liaison between the department and vendors and UAB iSupplier.
- Arrange domestic and international travel for faculty, staff, students, and guests.
- Create and draft itineraries for visiting scholars and guests and provide on-site support by ensuring they arrive at scheduled meetings on time.
- Plan and execute departmental events, meetings, and special functions, including logistics, scheduling, and vendor coordination.
- Assist faculty and researchers with proposal preparation and submission coordination for grant applications.
- Serve as a resource for facilities coordination and provide project support.
- Act as a liaison between the department, central UAB offices, and external stakeholders.
- Support faculty promotion processes and maintain related documentation.
- Process human resource documents and ensure compliance with institutional guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
