Start your healthcare career with hands on experience and a supportive team that is invested in your success. Under the supervision of clinic leadership and with guidance from a preceptor and Metropolitan Community College faculty, the Medical Assistant Apprentice provides patient care under the direction of physicians in ambulatory and procedural settings.
In this role, you will support both clinical and administrative functions while working closely with patients and the healthcare team. This position offers the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact on patient care while building the skills needed for a successful career as a Medical Assistant.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the clinic leader, MA preceptor and UH physicians, performs duties within the clinic that align with the Medical Assistant Scope of Practice.
Actively participates in scheduled didactic and clinical training to support learning and professional development.
Attends and contributes to the Medical Assistant apprentice monthly meeting to support engagement and positive growth within the program.
Supports quality improvement, staff and patient safety, and cultural diversity through department operations and personal performance.
Provides care in a manner appropriate to the age of the patient and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to meet each patient's physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
Maintains a courteous and helpful demeanor with patients, visitors, employees, medical staff members, and all individuals encountered while representing the organization.
Maintains current knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, guidelines, and standards required to perform job duties in accordance with the Corporate Compliance Plan.
Complies with the Code of Conduct, Corporate Compliance Plan, and Compliance Policies and Procedures, including all required training. Participates in compliance activities under the direction of the Department Manager and Corporate Compliance Officer.
What You Bring (Minimum Requirements)
High school diploma or equivalent
Must enroll in the Medical Assistant Program at Metropolitan Community College (once accepted into the program)
Completion of BLS within 90 days of employment and maintained for continued employment
Ability to perform POCT, immunizations, and injections
Ability to work as part of a team while prioritizing tasks and problem solving effectively
Excellent organizational skills
Strong commitment to providing superior customer service
Proficiency in Microsoft applications and basic computer skills
