The Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center (BEOC) is an adult education enterprise, of the State University of New York, University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (UCAWD), with an annual enrollment of 1,940 students, that provides urban and/or disadvantaged residents in the Western New York area with tuition-free academic programs, workforce development training and certifications, and gainful employment opportunities. The mission of BEOC is to produce lifelong learners who are self-directed, empowered, and committed to excellence. Residents of the surrounding Buffalo community are provided a range of services designed to develop the academic and workforce development skills necessary to become self-sufficient. Programs and services are structured to adapt to the needs of our students — as well as to the demands of our community — and serve as first steps toward the attainment of long-term educational and employment skills. Academic Responsibilities And Essential Functions
- Demonstrates sound knowledge and understanding of subject matter. Provides students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in assigned subject(s).
- Develops and delivers engaging and informative lectures, presentations, and hands-on activities that demonstrate how Youth Development Professionals play an important role in nurturing and guiding young individuals through life’s various challenges and milestones.
- Designs course curriculum, learning objectives, and assessments aligned with industry standards and best practices.
- Provides mentorship and guidance to students, fostering their understanding of theoretical concepts and practical applications.
- Incorporates real-world examples, case studies, and guest speakers to enhance learning experiences and the relevance of the subject matter.
- Facilitates discussions and collaborative projects that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork among students.
- Evaluates students’ performance and provides effective and timely feedback to guide student learning and success.
- Collaborates with designated Student Services staff to assist students with succession plans to either advance into postsecondary education, training opportunities, and/or a job.
- Participates in regularly scheduled meetings related to the Youth Development Professional Program with other EOCs and community organizations offering similar programming.
- Uses effective and timely communication strategies and methods to communicate with various stakeholders regarding the Youth Development Professional Program.
