Various other duties as assigned in support of Fire and Life Safety division such as but not limited to:
Instruction and Training Delivery
- Conduct CPR, AED, and First Aid certification courses in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper CPR and AED use; supervise participants to ensure skill mastery.
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs and maintain a positive, professional classroom environment.
- Prepare instructional materials, handouts, and testing supplies.
- Set up, operate, and maintain training equipment (e.g., mannequins, AED trainers, first aid supplies).
- Ensure all training equipment is clean, functional, and compliant with health and safety standards.
- Administer written and skills-based assessments to verify participant competency.
- Provide constructive feedback during practice sessions and testing.
- Accurately record attendance, evaluation results, and issue certification cards or digital credentials.
- Maintain accurate course records in compliance with certifying body requirements.
- Stay current with CPR/AED guidelines, training updates, and certification standards.
- Ensure training materials and delivery reflect the most up-to-date evidence-based practices.
- Offer refresher courses and skill checks as required.
- Assist in evaluating training program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with Environment, Health, and Safety staff and the Fire and Life Safety Manager to support workplace emergency preparedness initiatives.
Participate as a member of the EH&S Haz Mat Response Team
- Maintain emergency response inventory and kits.
- Tracks and inventories equipment, changes batteries, cleans and prepares kits for re-use and/or similar activities.
- Attend EH&S training sessions and drills.
- Responds under the direction of a supervisor or UB Incident Commander to emergency calls and evaluates, contains, and cleans-up hazardous material releases
- Help with performing testing and calibration procedures of extinguisher recharging equipment as required.
- Perform maintenance on equipment when qualified to do so. Report deficiencies that cannot be readily repaired or will result in extended periods of downtime to the Fire and Life Safety Manager.
- Manage the University AED program for distribution, inspection and maintenance of all AEDs to assure readiness of units and compliance with SUNY AED program regulations
- Assist with inventory and supplies are required to keep the AEDs in service at all times.
