Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as tractor-trailers and box trucks following all DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) standards.
- Plan and execute route driving using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules and ensure on-time arrivals.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment like forklifts, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking manual transmission systems, brakes, lights, tires, and securing cargo properly.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, and vehicle maintenance records in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch teams regarding route changes, delivery updates, or any issues encountered during transit.
- Ensure all cargo is secured properly for transport and handle logistics cargo with precision to prevent damage or accidents during transit.
Requirements
- Valid CDL A license with experience operating tractor-trailers and other commercial vehicles such as dump trucks or roll-off trucks.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on freight delivery across various routes.
- Knowledge of manual transmission operation and experience handling refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, hazardous materials regulations, and dangerous goods transportation.
- Ability to operate GPS navigation systems efficiently for route planning and adjustments.
- Strong manual handling skills for loading/unloading freight safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) safety standards governing commercial trucking operations.
- Ability to drive safely under varying weather conditions while maintaining a professional attitude on the road.
- Physical capability to perform truck driving duties including long hours behind the wheel and manual handling tasks when necessary.
