Position Overview
The VDC Project Lead is responsible for directing the VDC effort on assigned projects by overseeing a team of modelers and managing the coordination process from design through fabrication readiness.
This role does not perform day-to-day modeling. Instead, the VDC Project Lead ensures the modeling team produces accurate models that align with project specifications, installation methods, and company standards. The position acts as the bridge between VDC, project management, engineering, and field operations to make sure the model supports real world construction.
The VDC Project Lead is accountable for model quality, coordination progress, and ensure the project is ready for fabrication and installation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the VDC coordination effort for assigned construction projects
- Direct and oversee a team of VDC modelers working on the project
- Review models for accuracy, constructability, and specification compliance
- Ensure models support fabrication and field installation requirements
- Maintain project modeling standards, workflows, and quality control procedures
- Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, and field supervision
- Participate in trade coordination meetings and represent the company’s VDC scope
- Oversee clash detection and ensure coordination issues are resolved before fabrication
- Communicate design changes, RFIs, and project updates to the modeling team
- Track modeling progress and maintain coordination schedules
- Ensure modeling deliverables are completed on time for fabrication and construction
- Identify constructability issues early and work with project teams to resolve them
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience working in VDC/BIM for mechanical or piping construction
- Strong understanding of Revit based modeling and fabrication workflows
- Experience leading or supervising VDC modelers on construction projects
- Solid understanding of mechanical and piping installation practices
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and P&IDs
- Experience participating in multi trade coordination environments
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Revit Fabrication Parts and fabrication driven modeling environments
- Experience with Navisworks coordination and clash detection
- Background in mechanical, process piping, or industrial construction
- Experience working with fabrication shops and spool package deliverables
