Position: HIM/MEDICAL RECORDS SPEC/TECH

Position Summary: Assumes responsibility and accountability for providing coverage in various staff positions for employees who are absent from the Health Information Department. On a daily basis the Floater assumes the responsibility of any task that needs to be done. This excludes the Coding Department. Hours and days fluctuate according to coverage needed.

Demonstrates leadership in the provision of departmental services through a collaborative process designed to integrate services/functions throughout NWTHS.

About Universal Health Services

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required:

1. High school graduate or equivalency
2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
3. Work under time constraints
4. Typing skills of 40-50 words per minute
5. One to two years’ experience in the Health Information Department
6. Courses in medical terminology and other related medical record courses preferred

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

1. Ability to read and write in English.
2. Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others.
3. Ability to cope with and remain calm under stress and must be able to appropriately handle an irate person when the occasion arises (i.e., physician, hospital employee, patient).
4. Ability to respond to pages, telephones and other auditory stimulation.
5. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
6. Bending, lifting, grasping, and moving 10 /- lbs, pushing and pulling medical record documents.
7. Dexterity of upper extremities and fingers, as well as mental dexterity for accurately sorting medical record documents.
8. Ability to sit for prolong periods of time.

9. Ability to flex neck for sorting documents.
10. Strong concentration skills and ability to review images on a computer monitor that are stationary or in motion.
11. Must be able to read poorly handwritten communication.
