Essential Functions

The Speech-Language Therapist’s primary responsibility is to identify, evaluate, and provide speech interventions and indirect/direct services for students with communication needs. 

 

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial evaluations and re-evaluations of students with communication needs and produce final evaluation reports within mandated timelines.
  • Administer testing as needed, including screenings to determine the need for further assessment.
  • Interpret assessment results to provide meaningful recommendations to increase student success.
  • Participate as a key member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and the IEP Team
  • Articulate test results to parents and IEP team in a clear and concise manner
  • Provide present levels of functional performance, IEP goals, and recommendations for services.
  • Assist in the placement of students with complex needs requiring specialized programming.
  • Participate in and provide on-going professional development for staff, students, and parents.
  • Collect data, monitor student progress, and make recommendations to assist with the planning and implementation of student supports.

 

Program Specific:

  • Provide push-in and pull-out therapy sessions working with students individually, in small groups, and in inclusive classroom settings.
  • Consult with IEP teams to determine appropriate modes of communication for individual students and the integration of this system in the school setting and home.
  • Provide training in the use of low and high-tech assistive technology devices for communication and augmented communication systems when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Special Education, school administration, and the special education and student support teams to develop individual and tiered supports to address student needs.
  • Review and finalize evaluation reports completed by other SLPs to ensure accuracy and a high standard of excellence.
  • Assist with the School-Based ACCESS Program (SBAP) and the billing of eligible services.
  • All other related duties as determined necessary by management.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders and PDE Certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist required. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a school setting required; experience with early intervention, elementary and secondary students preferred. 
  • Prior experience with administering and interpreting an array of standardized tests, and the evaluation and diagnosis of exceptional children with developmental disabilities and communication needs required.
  • Ability to conduct bilingual evaluations in Spanish and/or Cantonese highly preferred.
  • Experience in an urban setting preferred.
  • Understanding of the K-12 education environment and commitment to serving all students
  • Strong understanding of special education regulations and the fundamentals of IDEA (e.g. federal and state compliance, evaluation process, disabilities, IEP requirements, discipline, etc.)
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-needs environment and flexibility to support multiple school settings. 
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and collaborate with a variety of participants and partners.
  • Working knowledge of PowerSchool and Easy IEP a plus
