What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cohort position at Universal Academy?

• Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
• Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
• Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject & level assigned Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
• Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of core academic subject assigned General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Experience: At least three years teaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties: Basic Functions
1. Ability to maintain effective and professional written and oral communication
2. Arrive to work on time daily. Work Hours are 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
3. Attend all faculty and staff meetings. The regular faculty and staff meetings are scheduled once a month from 4:10 p.m. – 5:10 p.m. However, teachers may be asked to stay for additional meetings throughout the school year.
4. Sign-In and Sign-Out each day using the time clock whenever you leave campus for any reason.
5. Arrive to the assigned morning duty by 7:30 a.m.
6. Arrive to the assigned afternoon duty on time and stay at the assigned duty until all students have left for day.
7. Wear the complete school uniform outlined by the district.
8. Volunteer one Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for STAAR Tutoring. The dates will be outlined by the district.
9. Read and adhere to the weekly Administrative Updates.
10. Ensure that all assigned grade levels attend all meetings with the completed Meeting Protocol Form, supported documentation, and data.
11. Conduct weekly gradebook checks for assigned grade levels. Closely monitor the required two grades per week and ensure that the online and hard copy gradebooks are aligned each week.
12. Monitor campus committees.
13. Attend all after school programs and meetings outlined by the district.
14. Demonstrate a working knowledge of curriculum, instruction, staff development, best teaching practices, and technology
15. Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
16. Ability to work as part of a team
17. Provide academic support directly and monitor implementation of Response to Intervention
18. Work closely with parents
19. Monitor student achievement data and interpret, report, and act on results
20. Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Universal Academy and follow directives from superiors.
21. Attend late afternoon duty one day per week until 5:30 p.m.
Coaching Teachers and Providing Professional Development
1. Ability to assist teachers to analyze, interpret, and use data to guide instruction in all content areas
2. Ability to assist teachers to plan, monitor, and evaluate outcomes of targeted intervention in all content areas.
3. Ability to assist teachers to facilitate differentiation of the instructional programs & teaching practices
4. Ability to improve teaching through a variety of methods, i.e., coaching, monitoring data, focused dialogue, collaborative planning, action plan implementation and providing professional development with campus based coaches
5. Broad-based knowledge of the district curriculum and district initiatives/programs which support and are aligned to the curriculum
6. Broad-based knowledge and training in application of research-based teaching methods and learning strategies
7. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate instructional strategies and student learning styles related to the unique learning needs of all students including those of special populations
8. Knowledge and skills in the use of technology as a resource tool for accessing and analyzing data for determining appropriate interventions and support to campuses
9. Ability to develop and provide professional development to adult learners
10. Evidence of flexible thinking and willingness to accept new ideas and constructive feedback for personal, professional and program growth and development
11. Personal understanding and dedication to district’s core beliefs
12. Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with all stakeholders for ensuring improvement in both instructional performance and academic achievement
13. Ability to interpret district and campus data for determining corrective interventions associated with instructional decisions and programming which impact teacher instruction and student performance
14. Ability to monitor specific action plans, programs, and initiatives and develop status reports
15. Ability to maintain effective communication and working relationships with campus staff
16. Conduct weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for all assigned grade levels and adhere to all directives outlined in the weekly administrative updates.
17. Observe the Professional Code of Ethics of the teaching profession.
18. Monitor Professional Development and training expectations outlined by the district.
19. Provide targeted feedback to campus instructional coach on coaching methodology, practice, schedules, and other topics related to the campus instructional program and student achievement 20. Ability to be the “coach of the campus coaches” providing guidance, focus and feedback
21. Ability to implement district coaching model effectively, such as Cognitive Coaching and Contentfocused Coaching, etc.
22. Attend district professional development, provide feedback, and co-present district professional development to campus/ district faculty and staff.
23. Provide and facilitate district, division, and campus professional development as needed to include evenings and weekends
24. Provide support to campus/district faculty and staff by focusing and identifying professional development campus needs by reviewing data, campus coaching information, and on-site technical support.
25. Provide guidance and content area expertise to improve teaching through a variety of methods, i.e., monitoring data, focused campus coach dialogue, collaborative planning, review of action plans, and providing professional development to campus coaches 26. Maintain expertise in content areas and in coaching to facilitate district needs.
Collaboration
1. Provide leadership and facilitation of vertical and horizontal instructional planning and meetings among grade-levels and/or departments with the campus/district
2. Collaborate with campus/district staff to facilitate systemic change and sustainability of campus/ district initiatives
3. Provide support to campuses/district through data-driven professional development and on-site technical assistance with identified campuses
4. Ability to be a liaison between campus/district departments and campus personnel
Plan Development
1. Assist teachers to develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
2. Assist teachers to prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and instructional levels.
3. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
4. Assist teachers to plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
5. Assist teachers to conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
6. Assist teachers to work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
7. Supervise assignments of the faculty and staff.
8. Assist teachers to use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
9. Regularly Review campus/district Site Based Decision Making Plans to improve teachers & students.
10. Provide specific feedback on campus/district Site Based Decision Making Plans.
11. Monitor implementation of campus/district Site Based Decision Making Plans.
Data Analysis
1. Ability to use data to guide action plan development for teachers & students.
2. Utilize data to inform and guide review of campus/district Site Based Decision Making Plans.
3. Utilize campus/district data to assist with curriculum reviews and revisions, as well as assessment development.
4. Utilize district, division and campus data to make informed decisions regarding focus and content of professional development
5. Serve as an instructional liaison between the teaching and learning department, school leadership department and administrative team
6. Develop long and short range plans to align with campus/district needs
Student Growth and Development
1. Assist teachers to help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
2. Assist teachers to help conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
3. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
4. Be a positive role model for the faculty and staff; support the goals, vision, and mission of school campus/district.
Classroom Management and Organization
1. Assist teachers to create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
2. Assist teachers to manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct & student handbook.
3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, & facilities.
4. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Communication
1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
2. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
3. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
1. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
2. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
3. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
4. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Policy Implementation
1. Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, district philosophy, board policies, and present subject matter according to established guidelines
2. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required
3. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
