Overview
The Director of Development must have a passion for the mission of UPH. Will work with the Foundation’s team with special responsibilities for planning and implementing a program to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors with the ability to make major annual gifts, special project gifts and planned gifts directed to the mission of UnityPoint Health - Muscatine. The director’s success is dependent on the ability to build new and foster existing relationships. The Director will report to the President, Trinity Health Foundation (THF) and collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Trinity Muscatine and Trinity Muscatine Foundation Board of Directors.

Responsibilities
Operational Functions
- In conjunction with the THF president, Trinity Muscatine Executive Director and Trinity Muscatine Foundation Board, develop and implement an annual and multi-year development plan for UPH – Muscatine.
- Develop and implement a communications plan to promote philanthropy for UPH – Muscatine.
- Plan and implement program of annual and major gifts, using staff/volunteers where appropriate.
- Participate as a full member of the THF team in planning, organizing, coordinating, and attending annual fundraising activities and events for UPH - Muscatine.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective annual and major donors.
- Structure major prospect identification process, including the use of web-based resources.
- Organize a cultivation program of annual and major donors using a variety of methods including personal visits, involving other staff, administration, board members, current donors, and friends.
- Meet fundraising targets established annually; based on industry benchmarks and tracked in enterprise foundation data base.
- Attendance at evening and weekend events, board and donor meetings as needed.
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and patient experience by striving to exceed donor and patient expectations.
- Appreciation for traditions and heritage of UPH-Muscatine.
Strategic Planning
- Coordinate with Planned Giving to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward future planned gifts.
- Participate as a full member of the Foundation’s team in planning, organizing, and coordinating annual fundraising activities and events.
Performance Improvement
- Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and community experience by striving to exceed community expectations.
- Integrates and demonstrates FOCUS values and Expectations for Personal and Service Excellence to guide professional behaviors, while adhering to the policies and procedures of UPH
- Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DNV, TJC, OSHA, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- One to three years’ experience in charitable philanthropic work (including annual gifts experience) or sales/marketing background or significant volunteer work with non-profits during their fundraising programs and/or campaigns.
- Preferred proven track record of creating and cultivating relationships in Muscatine and in securing major gifts and charitable planned giving in Muscatine.
