Responsibilities
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during patient exams, treatments, and procedures
- Room patients, obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and other pertinent clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Perform point-of-care testing, specimen collection, and other clinical tasks within scope of practice
- Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments per scope of licensure
- Prepare patients for exams and procedures and provide support throughout their visit
- Educate patients on medications, treatments, preventive care, and follow-up instructions
- Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and communication with patients as needed
- Support ongoing care for patients with acute and chronic health conditions
- Assist with maintaining efficient patient flow and a positive clinic experience
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment
- Work collaboratively with providers and the care team to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care
- Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (Certificate, diploma, or Associate’s Degree) required.
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following required:
- National Healthcare Association
- American Association of Medical Assistants
- National Center for Competency Testing
- National Certified Medical Assistant
- National Association of Health Professionals
- American Registry of Medical Assistants
- American Allied Health
- American Medical Technologists
- Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred
- Familiarity with EPIC a plus!
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with patients and families
- For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
