JOB SUMMARY:
To provide patient care and technical skills in the operation of a computed tomography (CT) scanner for diagnostic and evaluation purposes. Performs computed tomography (CT) scanner procedures under the direction of a Radiologist within the parameters of the ARRT.
- 2 years working experience in a hospital environment preferred. New grads are welcome to apply!
- CT experience preferred. Will train!
- Provide patient care and technical skills for diagnostic and evaluation purposes.
- ARRT registered.
- Able to work cooperatively with all hospital staff and physicians.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Perform routine CT exams according to the procedure manual allowing for any special instructions from the Radiologist or patient physician.
2. Put performed cases together, checking for old exams, pulling or downloading as necessary. Pull old report for review if needed.
3. Performs all exams with optimum standard of quality as directed by the Radiologist/Procedure manual.
4. Practices proper entries and records on Radiology Information System and Hospital Information System.
5. Prepares patient for CT procedure by accurately assessing patient’s needs and providing patient education.
6. Carefully explain the CT Procedure to patient and/or guardian.
7. Take adequate history and all documentation as defined by CT Policy and Procedure.
8. Take any questions or concerns to the director and/or radiologist.
9. Notify attending physician by phone call or fax when exam performed differs from exam ordered.
10. Perform ISTAT on patients requiring contrast for exam as well as document appropriately by scanning all forms into eRad. Consult with radiologist when values are outside established norms.
11. Prepare documents for STAT readings. Follow through with calls to radiologist as necessary. Call ordering physician/unit with report and document times.
12. Complete contrast consent before administration of contrast. Discuss any concerns with the radiologist.
13. Operates computed tomography scanner for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, documentation of images, and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
14. Prepares patients films for interpretation by radiologist.
15. Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
16. Practices safety measures in CT and Environment of Care.
17. Participates in research projects as directed and assigned.
18. Instructs students on clinical CT skills (if applicable).
19. Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure. Applies the profession’s code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
20. Participate in Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement, data collection, and documentation as assigned.
21. Always leave assigned areas clean, stocked and ready for next shift.
22. Responsible for knowing the lifting requirements of the job and requesting assistance when appropriate. As well as being willing to help when lifting assistance has been asked of individual.
23. Contacts various hospital departments in order to change schedules; arrange for patient transportation, unit cleaning or equipment repair; and to order medications, supplies, etc.
24. Performs related clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, running errands, ordering supplies, fax machine, etc.
25. Floats to other units/facilities as directed and needed.
26. Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic or oral disclosures.
27. Displays concern and initiative. Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
28. Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences. Adheres to the attendance policies.
29. Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors.
30. Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as hospital polices that apply to assigned duties.
31. Complies with hospital expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct.
32. Complies with federal and hospital requirements in the areas of protected health information and patient privacy.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES:
Education: Associates degree or radiologic graduate from an accredited radiography program, CT registered or registry seeking.
Experience: Prefer one year of CT/Radiology experience.
Licensure: CPR certification within 180 days of hire.
Other Job Requirements: Standard CT and office equipment. Excellent verbal communication skills necessary in order to instruct and comfort patients and their families. Maintain effective contacts with a variety of Hospital Personnel. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit/department. Knowledge in the use of online systems. Basic typing and keypunch skills. Ability to interpret computer output errors and make appropriate corrections. Ability to react calmly and effectively in busy or emergency situations.
