Key responsibilities
- Respond to calls for service and emergency incidents across the facility following established procedures.
- Operate fire apparatus and equipment as needed; participate in hazardous materials response.
- Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire extinguishers and fire protection systems.
- When assigned, carry out a security role and operate a department-issued response vehicle.
- Lead and document post-incident investigations; produce factual, detailed reports.
- Maintain required certifications in EMS, firefighting, and HazMat to safeguard employees and operations.
- Rotating 12-hour shifts that include some Saturdays and Sundays.
- Exposure to hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy conditions typical of heavy industry.
- Coverage spans multiple zones throughout the Granite City Works facility.
- High School Diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license.
- State or National Licensed basic EMT.
- Certified Firefighter I or equivalent credential.
- Demonstrated composure and effectiveness during high-stress emergencies.
- Ability to investigate incidents and capture facts in a professional report format.
