On any given shift, you may roll out to a call for service, stabilize a medical emergency as an EMT, operate fire apparatus, or evaluate hazards—always following established departmental procedures across multiple areas of the plant.

- Respond to in-plant calls for service and emergency incidents using department-adopted procedures.
- Operate fire apparatus and associated equipment as needed; support hazardous materials response.
- Inspect, test, and maintain portable extinguishers and fixed fire protection systems.
- Serve in a security capacity when assigned, operating a department-issued response vehicle.
- Conduct fact-finding after incidents and document details in clear, thorough reports.
- Maintain all certifications required to protect employees and company assets (EMS, firefighting, HazMat).
- Rotating 12-hour shifts, including some Saturdays and Sundays.
- Heavy industrial conditions: hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.
- Work spans various areas throughout the Granite City Works facility.
- High School Diploma or GED, and a valid driver’s license.
- State or National Licensed basic EMT.
- Certified Firefighter I or equivalent.
- Ability to perform under pressure in stressful emergency situations.
- Strong investigative and report-writing skills.
