What are the responsibilities and job description for the 9-1-1 Fire and EMS Call Taker / Dispatcher position at Central County Emergency 911?
Central County Emergency 911 provides Fire and EMS dispatching services for the vast majority of St. Louis County, Missouri, as well as portions of Franklin and Jefferson Counties.
We are accepting applications for 911 Call Takers and Dispatchers who will talk to the public to gather information about their emergency, dispatch Fire and/or EMS units, enter data into CAD, and monitor multiple radio channels. (Applicants selected for employment will start as a Call Taker and will have the opportunity to advance to the Dispatcher position.)
Must be certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), and CPR, or be willing to obtain EMD/EFD/CPR certification within 90 days of employment. The agency will provide and cover the cost of all required training.
The hiring process includes multiple phases: online skills testing, job shadowing, interviewing, background checks, and drug testing. The next Academy will begin in September.

- Minimum Typing Speed of 30 Wpm
- Available to Work 12-Hour Shifts (Includes Days, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays)
- Available for Mandatory Overtime (as needed)
- Ability to Sit for Long Periods of Time. Standing Desks are Available.
- Prior Fire and/or Emergency Medical Dispatching Experience is a Plus, But Not Required
- Minimum of 18 Years of Age
- Minimum of High School Diploma or Equivalent
