The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the installation's Family Advocacy Officer (FAO) directly supervising a staff consisting of social worker(s) and may also include a registered nurse and support personnel. Integrates and organizes the Family Advocacy Program (FAP).

  • This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". IAW Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094. A FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position
  • Two years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse. Practice will require clinical privileges at the host MTF. Must maintain independent active clinical privileges for the duration of employment. Must sustain current competency to practice at the independent level

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions, for 0185 series.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:

Degree: LCSW. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:



SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-11 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include knowledge of social work practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems; knowledge of child and family welfare service to perform program planning and develop and maintain public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies; knowledge of a wide array of problem and disorders of children and families and varied resources needed to treat them. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Professional knowledge of social work practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems.

2. Knowledge of the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to perform program planning and develop and maintain public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies.

3. Knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families and the varied resources needed to treat them.

4. Ability to evaluate and determine best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services.

5. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

6. Ability to supervise, plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of military and civilian personnel.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Carries out program management responsibility for the installation Family Advocacy Program (FAP), ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and meeting customer needs
  • Represents FAP to (or on behalf of) the installation, group, squadron leadership through multiple installation and functional area organizations
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities
  • Carries full professional responsibility for assigned cases presenting a wide range of psychosocial and environmental problems from prevention, intervention, and treatment through case closure and/or transfer
  • Works to achieve and support quality improvement in all products and services
