Joining the U.S. Secret Service (USSS), Office of Security, Security Programs Division, Field Support Branch will allow you to support the USSS Enterprise, its protective mission, and its investigation mission by coordinating implementation and oversight of security policies, programs, and standards to protect and safeguard personnel, property, facilities, and information, and to oversee and support emergency preparedness (EP), response planning, and continuity of operations (COOP).

Qualifications:

To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying.

GS-13

Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-13 level (starting salary $90,925) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level performing a majority of the duties listed below:

  • Monitoring program implementation and practices to assure the appropriate handling and safeguarding of classified and sensitive information for which protection and accountability are required by regulations.
  • Analyzing local administrative, information, physical security, Emergency Preparedness (EP) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) programs, to include providing advice and guidance to stakeholders in resolving routine security problems/issues.
  • Conducting research, providing analysis, and presenting findings and recommendations on subjects applicable to local administrative, information, physical security, EP and COOP programs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.

Responsibilities:

The selectee will serve as a Regional Security Specialist in the Office of Security, Security Programs Division. Typical work assignments include:

  • Interprets and implements Executive Orders, Regulations, and USSS guidelines and policies to develop security, Emergency Preparedness (EP), and Continuity of Operations (COOP) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and applicable instructions for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitors facility security program, to include facility access control standards for Field Office personnel, to include contractors and visitors.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the local security, EP, and COOP programs and provides advice and guidance to investigative office personnel regarding updates, procedures, and other requirements.

This Regional Security Specialist position starts at a base salary of $90,925.00, GS-13 Step 1, with potential to $118,204.00 GS-13 Step 10.

The selectee may report to and work from any of the below listed offices while still being required to travel to the other offices on a regular basis.

Washington DC Field Office:
The selectee will provide service and support to the following twelve (12) offices:

  • Baltimore Field Office
  • Charleston SC Resident Office
  • Charlotte Field Office
  • Columbia Field Office
  • Greensboro Resident Office
  • Greenville Resident Office
  • Norfolk Resident Office
  • Raleigh Resident Office
  • Richmond Field Office
  • Roanoke Resident Agency
  • Washington DC Field Office
  • Wilmington NC Resident Office

Miami Field Office: The selectee will provide service and support to the following eleven (11) offices:

  • Jacksonville Field Office
  • Miami Field Office
  • Tampa Field Office
  • Orlando Field Office
  • Atlanta Field Office
  • West Palm Beach Resident Office
  • San Juan Resident Office
  • Fort Myers Resident Office
  • Tallahassee Resident Office
  • Savannah Resident Office
  • Albany GA Resident Office


San Francisco Field Office: The selectee will provide service and support to the following eight (8) offices:

  • San Francisco Field Office
  • Sacramento Resident Office
  • Seattle Field Office
  • Fresno Resident Office
  • San Jose Resident Office
  • Anchorage Resident Agency
  • Portland OR Resident Office
  • Spokane Resident Office


The selectee will be responsible for supporting all of the locations listed within the region.
