Here's a Summary Of Responsibilities

Under the supervision and direction of theDirector,Sports Medicine Research, the Associate Research Scientistwillexecute studies to supportsports medicine research initiativeswithin the USOPC.The AssociateResearchScientist will be responsible for collecting and evaluating participant data, analyzing research results, and synthesizing findings into deliverables and/or strategies for use by USOPC Sports Medicine for elite athlete populations.The Associate Research Scientist will also help design, develop and implementcreative and impactfulresearch studies focused on injury and illness prevention in sport.The AssociateResearchScientist will alsoparticipatein educational, research, and other activities related to sports medicine. The Associate Research Scientist will be expected to provide exceptional customer support to internal and external customers ensuring optimal health and wellness for Team USA.

Here’s How You’ll Have An Impact

  • Organizeand execute clinical research programs (e.g., injury and illness epidemiologyresearch, injury and illness prevention programs, sport scienceresearch programs, technology assessments, data analysis for outcome predictions).
  • Executeresearch studies focused on injury and illness prevention, mental health,andperformanceamongOlympic andParalympicathletes,clinical outcomes and return to sport. Duties include,butarenot limited to,study conceptualization and design, participant recruitment and enrollment, data curation, data management, data analysis,anddissemination of research findings.
  • Leadthe delivery, collection, and evaluation of research participant health and performance dataper regulatory guidelines.
  • Develop and manage data collection and analytic procedures, includingbut not limited to, developing study-specific data collection processes and databases,training relevant research personnel on data collection methods, andconducting statistical analyses of collected data.
  • Improve research methods including study design, data collection and storage, statistical analysis, health care planning, and injury and illness surveillance systems.
  • Synthesizeresearch findings into actionable insightsand strategiesfor USOPC Sports Medicine team. Disseminateresearch findings tointernal and externalstakeholders (e.g., athletes, coaches,clinicians,NGBs, USOPC leadership)and the medical and scientific communities.
  • Collect and analyze appropriateclinical outcomesdatato support thedevelopmentand implementation ofpreventionprogramsand clinical interventionswithin the USOPC and external organizations.
  • Work with USOPC Sports Medicineindetermining impactful research questions for Team USA.Execute research studies and data capture utilizing USOPC and external partner research infrastructure to answer these questions.
  • Collaborate with USOPC Sports Medicine, USOPC Sports Performance, NGBs and other external research partners by providing support for ongoing and future research studies.Assist with implementing appropriate research methods, data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Represent the USOPC at external national and international research, Sports Medicine, and SportsPerformance meetings.Participate in the Sports Medicine Lecture Series as a speaker.
  • Participate in mentorship for medicaland researchtrainees in the USOPC 'Sports Medicine Research Experience’.
  • Partnerwith external research partnerson ongoing and future research projects to establish multi-site data collection procedures, including training, data collection and management, and dissemination plans.
  • Perform otherdutiesas assigned.

Here are the skills and experience you'll need to be effective:

  • Master’s degree (PhDpreferred)in Exercise/Sport Science/Kinesiology, Sports Epidemiology, Computer/DataScience orrelevant health-related field
  • 2-3yearsofexperienceconductingclinical and/orhumansubjects’research.
  • Research experience working withelite,youth/pediatric, female, and/orParalympicathletes
  • Researchexperience in epidemiology, injury and illness prevention,mental health/sport psychology,sport performance, and/or clinical outcomes
  • Prior experiencewithrelevant data collection methods and procedures,submission of regulatory documents (e.g., IRB/Human Ethics),data management,anddata analysis
  • Experience with a variety of data analysis and statistical softwarepreferred
  • Experience with preparation of regulatory documents (e.g., IRB/Human Ethics Submissions) preferred
  • Advanced skill in R, SAS, python, Tableau, SPSS, or similar data management software
  • Ability to handle confidential information and communicate only toitsintended audience(s)
  • Proficient in word processing, desktop publishing, data analysis, and Electronic Medical Record utilization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal skillswithability to work effectively with diverse populations, including athletes, coaches, administrative staff, physicians, volunteers,and other medical personnel
  • Ability to deal with non-routine matters and special projects with minimum and/or specific instructions
  • Creative, energetic self-starter
  • Preferred knowledge in the areas of:
  • Sport performance and human physiology
  • Management and care of athletic injuries
  • Injury and illness in athletic populations
  • Clinical outcome assessment for sports related injuries or illnesses

Here's Some More Information You Need To Know

  • Hiring pay range $65,000 - $70,000 per year
  • This Full-Time, Exempt position is intended to work 40 hours per week.
  • Bonus: This position will be eligible for the Annual Incentive Award Program, which has a 10% target. The USOPC may change or eliminate this program at any time at its sole discretion.
