Identify hazards: Work with project and engineering teams to identify potential safety hazards associated with specific jobs, experiments, and projects. This includes risks from radiation, cryogenics (extremely cold substances), chemicals, and high-power lasers.
Develop controls: Create and implement hazard control measures to mitigate identified risks, as part of SLAC's work planning and controls (WPC) process.
Review project plans: Examine plans for new machinery, equipment, and facility construction to ensure all safety requirements are met and integrated into the design.
On-site monitoring and compliance
Conduct inspections: Perform frequent and comprehensive safety inspections of facilities, machinery, and equipment in the field.
Monitor activities: Oversee construction and maintenance activities to ensure full conformance with approved project safety documents. This includes supervising the work of contractors and outside consultants.
