Summary:
The Shift Supervisor will direct and coordinate daily activities in the warehouse, set up and allocate work assignments, and evaluate procedures to make necessary adjustments. Performs daily supervisory responsibilities and provides back-up support for Operations Manager duties as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

35% - Operations:
· Reviews and monitors dock schedule to ensure all shipments are properly staged.
· Reviews job cards and forklift inspection sheets for accuracy and to ensure they are submitted on-time.
· Ensures that individual employee’s productivity standards and established goals are met daily. Meets with employees as applicable and provides productivity information.
· Assists with opening and closing building; secures building by utilizing alarm system at the end of each workday.
· Ensures all procedures are accurately documented, followed, and updated as needed.
· Utilizes continuous improvement processes to determine root cause for any quality issues. Identifies and implements opportunities to improve productivity.
· Participates in Continuous Improvement projects as required.
· Investigates Warehouse Management System problems; makes necessary adjustments and communicates findings and recommendations to WMS coordinator as needed.
· Provides coverage for other positions during vacations and absences.
· Performs employee, system, and process flow to provide recommendations for improvements.
· Expands job knowledge through classes, cross-training, job shadowing, attending meetings, etc.
25% - Supervision:
· Carries out supervisory responsibilities including participation in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; assigning, and reviewing work; updating procedures, appraising performance; answering employee questions, resolving issues, and providing direction according to organizational policies and applicable laws.
· Performs coaching or issues performance improvement action for violations of warehouse policy and/or rules. Communicates temporary and temp-to-hire associate violations to the Staffing Agency, if applicable.
· Prepares operational schedules and coordinates activities to meet production and quality specifications. Executes and modifies production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for completing orders.
· Ensures KPIs are met or exceeded using current software systems.
· Reports KPI failures to managers with root cause and potential solutions
· Inspects deep lane LGV storage for product or facility damage.
· Inspects dock racking for damage accumulation.
· Inspects bay rows to ensure correct placement of cubes and/or product and that it is stored in compliance with established product handling and food safety guidelines; addresses changes as necessary.
- Aligns team members by communicating a common vision, relaying incremental milestone targets, and celebrating victories along the way.
· Identifies skillset gaps; initiates and motivates plans for improvement.
· Rotates assignments to ensure cross-training is completed and sustained. Helps new associates integrate into the culture.
· Minimizes turnover through C-Suite methodology; ensuring Stay Interview process is followed.
15% - Clerical Duties:
· Creates carrier move then attaches the shipment to the carrier move.
· Creates trailers for outbound shipments and closes out trailers when shipment is complete.
· Creates pallet placards and labels for outbound shipments.
· Creates shipping packets containing BOL’s, Packing Lists and COA’s to be placed on the last units in the trailer.
· Answers internal phone calls, faxes documents to planners, prepares reports, and files paperwork.
· Ensures training folders and weekly employee meetings are completed.
10% - Material Handling:
· Unloads and loads trucks, picks orders, and completes warehouse moves as needed.
· Verifies all inbounds for accuracy, places LPNs on units, and receives in product.
10% - Safety:
- Enforces safety rules and procedures including proper use of PPE, timely reporting of cell phone violations, accidents or incidents, and participation in YY’s to determine root cause.
· Follows food safety processes and guidelines including but not limited to good manufacturing practices, receiving and shipping requirements, glass and wood inspections, cleaning and sanitation schedules, holds and traceability requirements, pest control requirements, food safety audits and corrective actions. Any identifiable food safety issues should be reported to the Facility Manager immediately.
· Oversees building security and inspects building for damage and safety hazards.
· Conducts monthly safety meetings; completes and documents meeting session.
- Ensures work areas are clean and free from hazards.
5% - Communication:
· Plans and delivers daily start-up meetings.
- Communicates internally with United Facilities employees and temporary agency associates (if applicable) to provide an appropriate amount of training, direction, encouragement, and motivation to ensure a high level of performance and customer service.
- Communicates externally with carriers, suppliers, and customers via email and phone as required.
- Communicates pertinent productivity data, customer service needs, employee issues, safety, and maintenance needs to management in a timely manner.
- Maintains self-composure and encourages others to remain calm in stressful circumstances.
