What are the responsibilities and job description for the Application Engineer position at United Employment Group, Inc.?
This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical problem-solving and direct customer engagement. If you're fluent in 3D design, energized by solving real-world engineering challenges, and comfortable owning a project from discovery to delivery, we want to hear from you.
What you'll do:
- Develop detailed plant layouts and equipment arrangement drawings using 3D CAD, incorporating customer site constraints, workflow requirements, and structural considerations.
- Engage directly with customers to understand operational needs, translate them into technical requirements, and present engineered solutions clearly and confidently.
- Prepare proposals, specifications, and technical documentation that accurately reflect project scope, equipment configuration, and site requirements.
- Conduct site visits and assessments to gather field measurements, evaluate existing infrastructure, and ensure designs are viable in real-world conditions.
- Collaborate with internal engineering, sales, and project management teams to ensure smooth handoff from design through fabrication and installation.
- Manage design revisions and respond to customer feedback throughout the project lifecycle, maintaining accuracy and alignment with approved scope.
What we're looking for:
- Degree in mechanical, civil, or industrial engineering- or equivalent technical experience
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (AutoCAD 3D, SolidWorks, or similar) with demonstrated experience producing plant layouts or equipment arrangement drawings
- Comfort working directly with customers- asking the right questions, presenting technical content, and managing expectations professionally
- Strong spatial reasoning and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, site plans, and specifications
- Organized and detail-oriented- able to manage multiple active projects with accuracy and accountability
- Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed
Nice to have:
- Background in industrial equipment, material handling, bulk materials, or heavy manufacturing environments
- Experience supporting a capital equipment sales or custom-build process
- Familiarity with structural steel design or knowledge of structural loading concepts
- Why this role
- You'll work on custom, one-of-a-kind projects for customers across North America- no two plants are the same. You'll have real ownership of your designs, direct relationships with customers, and visibility into the full project lifecycle from first sketch to final commissioning.
