Title: Estimator
Location: Alabama
Salary: $90k-$110k (DOE)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator with a background in roadway and paving projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids, performing quantity takeoffs, analyzing plans/specs, and working closely with operations teams to develop winning proposals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for roadway, paving, sitework, utilities, and related heavy civil projects
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs using plans, specs, and project documents
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes to determine the most competitive pricing
- Work with project managers, engineers, and field teams to develop bid strategies
- Identify project risks, constructability challenges, and value-engineering opportunities
- Create bid packages, proposals, and supporting documentation
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and coordinate RFI submissions
- Maintain estimating databases, production rates, and cost histories
Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil, roadway, or paving construction
- Strong understanding of DOT specs, roadway construction methods, and asphalt operations
- Proficient with estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, B2W, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans, surveys, and technical specifications
- Solid math, analytical skills, and attention to detail
- Strong communication and time-management skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (not required)
