Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

Job Overview

DB Civil Construction is seeking a motivated Estimator with experience in heavy civil, highway, earthwork, drainage, and underground utility construction. This position is responsible for reviewing construction plans, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, obtaining competitive pricing, and preparing accurate construction estimates.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and blueprints to accurately determine project scope and material requirements
• Develop detailed quantity estimates for heavy civil projects including roads, bridges, and site development works using estimating software such as Bluebeam, HeavyBid and Construction estimating tools
• Prepare comprehensive bid proposals by calculating quantities, pricing materials, labor costs, equipment needs, and subcontractor quotes
• Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams through effective negotiation to secure favorable pricing and terms while maintaining quality standards
• Analyze project plans to identify potential risks or cost overruns early on and implement strategies for effective cost management
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously by maintaining accurate spreadsheets and documentation of estimates, revisions, and correspondence
• Conduct regular review of construction drawings and technical documents to ensure estimates are aligned with current project specifications and industry standards
• Assist in managing project budgets by monitoring costs during construction phases and providing updates for client communication
• Stay current with industry trends, estimating techniques, and software advancements such as Bluebeam, AGTEK, and Microsoft Excel, and Estimating software platforms to enhance accuracy and efficiency

Experience

• Proven experience with engineering, surveying or as a construction estimator with a focus on heavy civil or infrastructure projects within the construction industry
• Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, technical drawing interpretation, and material estimating from blueprints
• Familiarity with estimating software including HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Excel, and other construction management tools
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects effectively while maintaining accuracy in cost estimation
• Excellent skills for working with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel spreadsheets for data analysis), construction drawing review, and cost control techniques
• Hands-on experience with construction, FDOT, roadway, or utility site activities or previous roles involving direct construction surveying, engineering or supervision is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of construction industry standards related to commercial heavy civil projects such as roads or bridges
• Effective communication skills for clear client interaction and internal collaboration

Pay: $64,500.00 - $84,500.00 per year
