Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

Job Overview

DB Civil Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator with a strong background in heavy civil, highway, earthwork, and underground utility construction. This position is responsible for leading bid preparation, developing accurate cost estimates, and coordinating with the estimating team and company leadership.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive and accurate construction estimates for heavy civil projects, including roads, bridges, tunnels, and site development works.
• Review and interpret detailed construction drawings, technical specifications, and project scopes to determine material requirements and labor costs.
• Utilize advanced estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, AGTEK, Excel and HeavyJob to prepare detailed bid proposals.
• Manage the entire estimation process, including quantity take-offs from blueprints and construction drawings, cost analysis, and risk assessment.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to negotiate pricing and secure competitive bids.
• Monitor project budgets during the bidding phase to ensure estimates align with strategic financial goals while maintaining accuracy.
• Oversee material cost estimating and develop strategies for cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare detailed spreadsheets and reports using Microsoft Office tools to support bid submissions and project planning.
• Conduct site visits when necessary to gather on-the-ground insights that influence accurate costing.
• Assist in managing client communication during the bidding process, providing transparent updates on estimate progress and scope clarifications.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the heavy civil construction industry.
• Strong proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and construction management platforms.
• Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading, interpreting technical drawings, and reviewing construction plans.
• Demonstrated ability in cost management, including material cost estimating and estimating construction project budgets.
• Excellent negotiation skills for securing favorable pricing with vendors and subcontractors.
• Familiarity with construction site operations and experience in managing estimation for commercial infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Excel spreadsheets for detailed cost analysis and reporting.
• Strong understanding of construction industry FDOT, FHWA standards related to cost control, material requirements from blueprints, and project management principles.
• Effective client communication skills with a transparent approach to presenting estimates and scope details.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately while considering safety standards and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrate the highest standards of integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct in all aspects of estimating, bidding, and professional relationships

Pay: $100,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
