Position Overview
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for underground utility and site work projects, including upcoming DOT and infrastructure contracts. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact on the company’s continued growth and help establish our presence in the public works sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid proposals for excavation and utility projects.
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, and addenda for DOT, municipal, and private site work projects.
- Identify and track bid opportunities within DOT and public infrastructure markets.
- Develop subcontractor and supplier relationships to ensure competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with project managers and field teams to support accurate budgeting and job setup.
- Assist in preconstruction planning, value engineering, and cost analysis.
- Maintain estimating databases, bid logs, and documentation for internal tracking.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience estimating excavation, underground utilities, or civil site work.
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, trenching, water/sewer/storm systems, and general civil construction methods.
- Experience or familiarity with DOT or public works bidding processes (state or municipal).
- Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Trimble Business Center, PlanSwift, or similar.
- Ability to read and interpret civil and utility plans, profiles, and bid documents.
- Excellent math, communication, and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with a desire to help a growing company expand its market presence.
