POSITION OVERVIEW
We are a small, growing commercial development firm based in Birmingham, Alabama, looking for an ambitious Civil Engineer who wants room to prove what they can do. You'll have the independence to approach projects your own way and the flexibility to work from home at least fifty percent of the time, all while working closely within a small, collaborative team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You'll own civil engineering design, permitting, and regulatory compliance for commercial development projects—from commercial lots to subdivisions. Working alongside our development team, you'll cut through complex regulatory landscapes and drive projects from concept through completion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design site plans and utility layouts for small commercial and subdivision developments
Secure and manage utility easements for sanitary sewer, water, and related systems
Size and specify pump systems for pressure sewer applications
Drive permitting and compliance under ALDOT regulations
Ensure projects meet ADEM environmental standards
Coordinate with Jefferson and Shelby County planning and engineering departments on access, ingress, and egress
Collaborate with traffic engineers on traffic impact studies and transportation analysis
Work with sanitary sewer designers on on-site wastewater treatment system design and permitting
Prepare technical documentation and engineering reports
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer license in Alabama preferred
Extensive experience in commercial site development and subdivisions
Deep knowledge of ALDOT, ADEM, Jefferson County, and Shelby County regulations
Experience with navigating ALDOT access management guidelines
Proficiency with civil engineering design software
Strong communication and project management skills
COMPENSATION
$80k to $105k annually, commensurate with experience.
