CMT Job Description: The Construction Materials Testing Engineer Professional performs a variety of construction materials testing and monitoring. Materials tested include soils, concrete, asphalt, and steel. We complete 100% of all materials laboratory testing, analysis, design and reporting in-house. The pay rate is based on the level of experience and active certifications. This position will be 90% outdoors on site.
Primary Responsibilities:
· Onsite visits
· Site reconnaissance
· Checking foundations
· Soil, concrete, asphalt sample pick-ups
· Perform density tests
· Molding concrete test cylinders
· Perform concrete and asphalt coring
· Report writing
· Monitor grading operations
· Asphalt batch plant inspections
· Monitor asphalt placement and perform asphalt in-place density tests
· Visual weld inspections
· Bolt torque tests
· May train other personnel.
· Any other duties as required Staff Engineers, Scheduling Manager and Fleet Manager
Position Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License
BS in Civil Engineering, Geology, Construction Management, Environmental Science or similar science degree
OSHA certification- preferred
Experience in Construction or Engineering- preferred
Physical Requirements:
- You must be able to pour concrete into cylinders and transport it to the vehicle and the laboratory. These cylinders can weigh up to approximately 30 pounds each.
- Must be able to manually hand auger in the soil to obtain a soil sample.
- Must be able to carry various kinds of equipment that weighs up to 50 lbs. from the vehicle to and from the job sites.
Advancement:
- The Staff Engineer/Geologist Level I can advance to Level II without a specific amount of experience working at Level I and obtaining certification in various areas of materials testing services.

- The Individual must learn and demonstrate the ability to evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques, using judgment to make minor adaptations and modifications.
- Candidate must show competence in administrative and technical practices. To advance, one must demonstrate on-site client satisfaction.
- Learn and supervise tasks or projects of limited duration, cost, and technical complexity under the general direction of the Team Leader.
- Must demonstrate the ability to interpret data, perform analyses, conclude, develop recommendations, and prepare completed reports for small routine projects.
- Must demonstrate the ability to supervise the work and train other personnel for small and medium projects.
