POSITION SUMMARY: CRED is a cohort-based vocational training program for at-risk community members between the ages of 18-40 years old. The program provides classroom instruction, case management services, internship opportunities, and job placement services designed to help clients earn a Commercial Driver’s License and obtain employment in the transportation industry. The Instructor will work with two other members of the CRED education team to develop curriculum, deliver educational and vocational workshops, and help clients strengthen their work readiness skills. The Instructor will provide in-person synchronous instruction, carefully recording client’s attendance, participation, and progress throughout the program. The individual selected for this position will be under the direct supervision of the CRED Program Director, will conduct themselves in a professional manner, and will comply with all standards set forth by United Activities Unlimited and the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Actively support the implementation of UAU’s CRED curriculum, including basic skills training, vocational training, and tutoring.
- Support a meaningful student-centered learning experience.
- Support/lead classroom discussions, contribute to client case notes as directed.
- Provide participants with clear instructions on projects, assignments, and learning objectives.
- Establish a professional rapport with participants by responding to inquiries within a 24-hour time frame.
- Actively promote teamwork and group-oriented activities.
- Record participation, attendance, and project completion according to UAU and DYCD guidelines.
- Provide daily and weekly updates to the Education Specialist and Program Director.
- Participate in end-of-program/post-program debriefs and evaluation activities.
- Attend team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, as applicable.
- Advise and coach clients to ensure success through advocacy, support, and guidance.
- Support engagement and enrichment events hosted by the CRED team.
- Assist with related advisory and/or departmental duties and projects as needed
- Associate’s degree in Education or related filed, required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in youth services or working with vulnerable populations, in occupational and life skills training, college preparation and enrollment.
- Minium 1 year of experience in education and/or the commercial driving industry
- Demonstrates operational knowledge and proficiency in learning technology, including Zoom, Google Meets, Google Classroom, and the Internet.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt content delivery to the needs of clients
- Strong verbal problem solving and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrates flexibility and a fluency for adapting to meet the needs of participants.
- Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently, including meeting deadlines, while contributing to a collaborative team effort.
- Demonstrates understanding and value of individuals different capacities, cultures, and abilities
- Respect for diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, academic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and identities
- Bilingual, a plus
