Lead Cloud Security Engineer
Location: Tysons Corner, VA or Rockville, MD
Work arrangement: Hybrid — 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.
Must have’s:
- 5-8 years’ experience being a security engineer and at least 2-3 years’ experience in a lead role. someone already in a lead position is ideal candidate
- AWS architecture, GCP and Azzure, any security related and CISSP certs
- Azzure AWS background (most ideal candidate)

About the role
We’re seeking a Lead Cloud Security Engineer to help protect enterprise systems and cloud environments, with a primary focus on AWS and Azure. You’ll lead the identification and prioritization of security risks, guide the design and operation of security controls, and help ensure security and compliance practices are consistently applied across the enterprise.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can work through technical details, improve security processes, and mentor other security professionals.
What you’ll do
- Lead established and ad hoc efforts to identify, validate, assess, and prioritize security risks.
- Identify gaps in security requirements and guide teams in defining requirements and designing effective security controls.
- Develop and implement strategies that promote consistent use of security controls across the enterprise.
- Lead the operation and monitoring of security controls; review, triage, and prioritize control results.
- Confirm that controls are operating effectively and coordinate resolution of control issues and discrepancies.
- Evaluate and recommend security technologies, techniques, and tools.
- Define, review, and promote information security policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Champion compliance with internal policies and external regulations and standards.
- Lead process improvement initiatives and provide practical recommendations to improve security operations.
- Mentor junior staff and provide leadership support, including backup coverage for management when needed.
- Participate in external process improvement committees as a Quality Assurance representative.
- Follow technology policies and comply with applicable security controls.
What you’ll bring
- 5 years of relevant information security or cloud security experience.
- Deep technical knowledge of cloud security, architecture, and common cloud security risks.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and Azure; experience with both is preferred.
- Experience leading security engineering, control implementation, cloud security, or compliance initiatives.
- Ability to translate security requirements into practical architecture and controls.
- Experience monitoring security controls, investigating findings, and coordinating remediation.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- An AWS or Azure architecture/security certification, a GCP certification, or CISSP.
- Experience developing security policies, standards, and enterprise-wide control strategies.
