Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and dependable individuals to join our team as a 911 Telecommunicator. This position plays a critical role in public safety by answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching appropriate resources, and providing life-saving instructions when needed.
Telecommunicators must remain calm under pressure, think quickly, and communicate clearly during high-stress situations. This is not just a job—it is a responsibility to serve and protect the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer incoming 911 and non-emergency calls
- Gather critical information and determine the nature of the call
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units appropriately
- Monitor radio traffic and maintain communication with field units
- Enter and update information in the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
- Provide pre-arrival instructions when necessary
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation of all incidents
- Some clerical work involving maintaining and updating 911 addresses.
Work Schedule
This position requires flexibility and the ability to work a variety of shifts, including:
- Days and nights
- Weekends
- Holidays
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Typing speed of 32 words per minute (WPM) required
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening
