OSRUI Retreat Center Manager

Location: Hybrid (Virtual and onsite at OSRUI in Oconomowoc, WI)

The Role

The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI) seeks a an experienced, motivated, and business-savvy Retreat Center Manager to lead the growth and operations of our year-round retreat center. This role blends strategic business development with exceptional hospitality leadership to create meaningful, welcoming experiences for diverse guests, including People of Color, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQIA individuals, and other underrepresented communities.

We’re looking for a results-oriented leader who is passionate about hospitality, energized by relationship-building and sales, and eager to transform OSRUI into a premier destination for retreats and gatherings year-round.

What You Will Do

Business Development & Sales

  • Develop and execute a robust sales strategy to grow the retreat center’s rental business.

  • Proactively identify, cultivate, and close new client opportunities through outreach to mission-aligned organizations.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and repeat groups to drive loyalty and revenue growth.

  • Represent the retreat center at community events, conferences, and industry forums to raise visibility.

  • Prepare compelling proposals, lead site visits, and respond promptly to inquiries and booking requests.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Manage the retreat center’s budget, including revenue targets, cost control, and financial reporting.

  • Negotiate contracts with rental groups and oversee the contracting and payment processes.

  • Ensure compliance with URJ policies, risk management standards, and best practices.

Event Planning & Execution

  • Primary liaison to third party Food Service Company and partner with them and the Operations Team to deliver seamless, high-quality guest experiences.

  • Tailor retreat offerings to meet client needs and create memorable events from start to finish.

  • Act as the onsite point of contact during retreats as needed, addressing issues proactively and professionally.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise an assistant director responsible for camp operations and support.

  • Member of the OSRUI Senior Leadership Team

  • Hire, train, and supervise part-time event staff, fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.

  • Business Development & Sales: Proven ability to drive growth, cultivate leads, and close business opportunities.

  • Event & Operations Management: Strong planning, coordination, and execution skills with attention to detail.

  • Financial Stewardship: Experience managing budgets, controlling costs, and aligning financial decisions with revenue goals.

  • Leadership & Team Management: Skilled at leading teams, providing feedback, and creating an inclusive work environment.

  • Inclusive Hospitality: Commitment to creating a welcoming space for guests and staff of all backgrounds and identities.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Able to balance independent work with cross-departmental teamwork and clear communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in sales, business development, or hospitality roles.

  • Demonstrated success in growing revenue and closing sales in a hospitality, event, or retreat setting.

  • Experience supervising part-time or seasonal staff teams preferred.

  • Familiarity with CRM systems, event management platforms, or hospitality industry tools strongly preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings during retreats; onsite housing is provided during these periods.

  • Able to lift 20 lbs. and maintain a demanding schedule, including after-hours response to guest needs.

  • Residence at camp during the summer camp season for four weeks or more.
