Location: Hybrid (Preference for Northern California area), expectation to be at Camp Newman (Santa Rosa) frequently throughout summer camp season.

Salary Range: $68,000 - $70,000 plus competitive benefits package

The Role

The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) seeks a strategic and relationship-driven Development Manager to support fundraising efforts and deepen donor engagement for Camp Newman’s summer and year-round experiences. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of data and storytelling, strategy and execution, and is passionate about helping young people thrive through immersive Jewish experiences.

What You Will Do

The Development Manager reports to the Development Director and is responsible for the following:

DATA, REPORTING & SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT

  • Manage donor database systems (Salesforce), ensuring timely and accurate gift entry, acknowledgment, and reporting.
  • Track progress toward fundraising goals, generate reports, and provide strategic insights to inform future efforts.
  • Coordinate grant tracking, reporting, and compliance in partnership with camp and URJ development teams.
  • Support alumni and community-building efforts by maintaining clean, up-to-date data and communications lists.
  • Provide support for the Executive Director (ED), Development Director (DD), and key lay leaders in scheduling, note-taking, and other administrative-related tasks.

Fundraising Strategy & Implementation

  • Partner with camp and URJ leadership to implement comprehensive fundraising strategies, including annual campaigns, capital projects, planned giving, alumni engagement, and prospect management.
  • Support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors at all levels, major donors, foundations, institutional funders and grassroots through the summer visitor’s program.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to coordinate donor communications, such as newsletters, acknowledgments, grassroot and social media fundraising appeals and impact reports.
  • Collaborate on fundraising collateral, marketing materials, and web content that highlight the camp’s mission, stories, and impact.

  • Fundraising Strategy & Execution: You know how to plan and execute fundraising campaigns and you’re skilled at building donor pipelines through thoughtful identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Relationship Building & Donor Stewardship: You have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy engaging with donors, lay leadership, alumni, foundations, clergy and community stakeholders in a way that feels warm, authentic, and professional.
  • Data Management & Analytical Thinking: You’re comfortable using donor database systems (such as Salesforce or Raiser’s Edge), and you approach data with precision – tracking gifts, analyzing trends, and generating insights to guide strategy.
  • Written & Verbal Communication: You’re a clear, compelling communicator who can craft donor reports and talking points that connect people to our mission and impact.
  • Self-Management & Accountability: You take initiative, follow through on commitments, and hold yourself to high standards of integrity and professionalism. You’re highly organized, able to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, and enjoy working collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2 years of relevant fundraising experience preferred
  • Ability to be on-site during the summer for key donor events and visits.
  • Occasional in-person meetings, as needed
