Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers across long-distance routes, including over-the-road (OTR) driving routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Manage the loading and unloading process of freight, including freight that involves hazardous materials or dangerous goods, following all hazardous materials regulations.
- Navigate using GPS systems to optimize routes, plan stops, and ensure timely deliveries while adjusting for traffic or weather conditions.
- Transport various types of cargo such as refrigerated goods, freight requiring manual handling, or specialized loads like tanker or flatbed shipments.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before and after each trip.
- Load and secure cargo properly to prevent shifting during transit, following logistics cargo handling best practices.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, logs, and reports in compliance with FMCSA regulations and company policies.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on long-haul or route driving.
- Familiarity with refrigerated trailers, flatbed trucks, tankers, and automobile transportation is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of truck loading/unloading procedures and manual handling techniques for freight safety.
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with endorsements relevant to hazardous materials (Hazmat), tanker vehicles, or other specialized loads preferred.
- Experience operating trucks with manual transmissions and navigating complex routes using GPS navigation systems.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations regarding driver hours of service, load securement, and safety protocols for hazardous materials.
- Ability to manage logistics cargo handling efficiently while maintaining safety standards at all times.
