Summary
The Downstream Associate Scientist will execute lab-scale purification experiments (chromatography, filtration, TFF), document results in ELNs, and support process development in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform downstream purification using chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, HIC) and filtration (TFF, depth filtration)
- Support process development, optimization, and scale-up for biologics
- Prepare buffers and maintain accurate documentation
- Operate and maintain AKTA and related purification systems
- Analyze data, interpret results, and present findings
- Assist with technology transfer to manufacturing
- Draft and review protocols, reports, SOPs, and batch records
- Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards
- Troubleshoot process issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Perform routine lab tasks including sample management, equipment maintenance, and inventory control
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 0–3 years of experience in downstream processing (industry or academic); CDMO/biopharma experience a plus
- Hands-on experience with chromatography systems (e.g., AKTA) and protein purification
- Familiarity with filtration techniques (UF/DF, TFF) and buffer preparation
- Basic knowledge of analytical methods (HPLC, SDS-PAGE, UV-Vis)
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, JMP, or similar)
