What are the responsibilities and job description for the Qualified Pharmacy Dispenser – Full-time, Mon to Fri – Worthing position at Unicare Pharmacy?
£13.50–£14.50 per hour depending on experience | 34–38 hours a week, negotiable | Monday to Friday | No weekends
Unicare Pharmacy is an independent, owner-led pharmacy on Rowlands Road, Worthing. We dispense NHS and private prescriptions, supply local care homes, and run a full set of NHS clinical services — Pharmacy First, hypertension case-finding, the NHS Pharmacy Contraception Service, the New Medicine Service, and flu and COVID-19 vaccination — alongside a growing private clinic (travel vaccinations, earwax removal, weight management, and more).
We need an experienced dispenser who can run a busy dispensary bench accurately and wants to be part of a pharmacy that does more than dispense.
The team
You'll work alongside two pharmacists, a pharmacy technician, four dispensers, and an apprentice. It's a small team: you work directly with the owner, your ideas get heard, and you're given responsibility as soon as you've shown you can handle it.
What you'll do
- Dispense NHS and private prescriptions accurately using EPS and Titan PMR (training given)
- Prepare MDS trays and manage care home orders
- Keep the dispensary running: ordering, stock control, date checks, owings, returns
- Resolve prescription queries with patients and GP surgeries
- Support our NHS and private services: booking patients in, blood pressure checks and fitting 24-hour monitors, and helping to deliver our private services as you are trained
- Help keep the pharmacy inspection-ready: SOPs, near-miss log, records
What you need
Essential
- Level 2 dispensing qualification — NVQ2 / Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills, or a GPhC-accredited equivalent (we will ask to see the certificate)
- At least one year's recent experience dispensing NHS prescriptions in a community pharmacy, so you already know EPS, owings and NHS prescription rules
- Willing to train for and deliver clinical services — this is not a dispensing-only job
- Accurate and organised, and calm when the bench is busy
- Confident with patients — at the counter, on the phone and in the consultation room
Desirable
- MDS and care home experience
- Accuracy Checking Dispensing Assistant (ACDA) qualification
- Supervisory or management experience
What you'll get
- £13.50–£14.50 per hour depending on experience, reviewed every April
- Monday to Friday, between 9am and 6pm. 34–38 hours a week — we'll agree the pattern with you. No weekends, no late nights. Paid overtime available if you want it
- 28 days' holiday including bank holidays (pro rata)
- Workplace pension
- All required training paid for
- Monthly team bonus linked to service targets
- The chance to apply for a funded Level 3 Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship after probation — for the right candidate and subject to a place being available
- Staff discount, and free parking within five minutes' walk
Unicare Pharmacy recruits on merit and welcomes applications from everyone.
