Compensation: $85,000–$110,000
Schedule: Monday–Friday: 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Saturday: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
About the Role
A growing, multi-site scrap metal recycling operation is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Maintenance Manager to lead and oversee its company-wide maintenance program, with a primary presence at the Locust Grove facility.
This is a hands-off-the-tools but not hands-off-the-equipment leadership role. The ideal candidate has a strong background as a heavy equipment mechanic and the leadership capability to drive uptime, safety, accountability, and cost control in a demanding industrial environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance Program Leadership
- Oversee and continuously improve a formal preventive maintenance (PM) program
- Develop and manage PM schedules, maintenance records, and downtime tracking
- Prioritize repairs to minimize operational disruptions
- Establish maintenance standards and expectations across all locations
Equipment Oversight (Scrap & Heavy Industrial)
- Industrial shredders (including primary shredders such as 3Tek Bravo)
- Cranes (material handlers, shear cranes, magnet & grapple cranes)
- Excavators
- Skid steers and loaders
- Balers and shears
- Forklifts
- Wire choppers and separation systems
- Conveyors and processing lines
- Yard trucks, roll-off trucks, trailers, and support vehicles
Team & Vendor Management
- Manage and support internal mechanics, welders, and maintenance personnel
- Coordinate OEMs, contractors, and external service providers
- Evaluate vendor performance, service quality, and responsiveness
- Assist with planning major repairs, rebuilds, and equipment shutdowns
Parts, Inventory & Cost Control
- Manage parts inventory, including critical spares and wear items
- Track parts usage and support cost-control initiatives
- Forecast maintenance-related costs in collaboration with leadership
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain working knowledge of OSHA requirements related to equipment maintenance
- Ensure safe work practices, PPE usage, and compliance with LOTO and guarding standards
- Support company safety programs in coordination with Safety/Compliance teams
Required Experience & Qualifications
- 7–10 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience
- 5 years in scrap metal recycling, shredding, or heavy industrial environments
- Prior hands-on experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
- Proven experience leading teams and managing vendors
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Ability to diagnose issues and make informed repair decisions
- Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills
- Valid driver’s license
Work Environment & Expectations
- Industrial scrap yard and processing facility environment
- Regular exposure to heavy machinery, noise, dust, heat, and outdoor conditions
- PPE required in operational areas
- Expected to support operations during equipment downtime within scheduled hours
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
