Meat Manager - Morris Plains, NJ

At Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace, we cut our meat the old-fashioned way—by hand, with care and precision. We take pride in our cuts and offer storefront butcher services that our customers love. We are looking for a Meat Manager to lead the Meat Department at our Greenvale store. This hands-on role requires experience with bandsaws, deboning knives, and traditional meat-cutting techniques.

In addition to a competitive salary, this position includes an Incentive Bonus of up to 15%.

What You’ll Do:

Department Leadership:

• Oversee daily operations of the Meat Department, ensuring fresh products, excellent service, and efficient workflow.

• Schedule and manage meat associates, provide skills training, and delegate work to maximize team talents.

• Monitor inventory, control department expenses, minimize out-of-stock and overstock situations, and meet budget goals.

• Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and labeling standards required by state, federal, and OSHA regulations.

• Execute merchandising plans to maintain attractive, customer-focused displays.

Counter Duties:

• Arrange and display cuts of meat to encourage customer purchases.

• Weigh, label, and price meat accurately and efficiently.

• Use skewers, twine, and other tools to prepare roasts for sale.

Hands-On Butcher Duties:

• Receive deliveries, inspect for quality, and process meat according to Uncle G’s traditional cutting standards.

• Use meat grinders, knives, saws, and other equipment to prepare cuts for display and sale.

• Maintain records, budgets, and inventory.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 7 years of experience as a butcher, including at least 3 years in a management role.

• Proven experience leading a team in a high-volume meat department or meat store.

• Strong communication skills and ability to train, mentor, and manage staff.

Working Conditions:

• Continuous movement on hard surfaces; may require bending, climbing, reaching, stooping, and lifting.

• Lifting up to 30 pounds; heavier or awkward items may require assistance.

• Indoor environment with machinery and equipment noise; shouting may occasionally be necessary.

• Exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, or coolers, as well as cleaning agents, sharp objects, and industrial equipment.
