• Compensation: Starting at $16.00/hour, based on experience, education, and internal equity.

What You’ll Do as a Staff Ready Float

• Support a variety of non-clinical units, including Patient Observation, Admissions, Transport, and other areas as competencies allow.

• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to ensure a safe and positive experience.

• Assist with patient movement, transport, observation, and non-clinical tasks that contribute to patient safety and workflow efficiency.

• Maintain compliance with organizational policies, safety procedures, and service standards.

• Demonstrate flexibility by adjusting to departmental needs and assisting where staffing support is required.

• Uphold UNC Health Appalachian’s Mission, Vision, and Values through compassionate and ethical interactions.

Qualifications

• Education:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Experience:

  • Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting preferred.

• Licensure/Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association required at hire.

• Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills using positive verbal and non-verbal techniques.

  • Ability to perform safe and effective support tasks within defined scope and hospital policies.

  • Knowledge of the continuum of care within a healthcare environment.

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced setting.

Physical & Work Environment

• Lift, position, or transfer patients and equipment 50 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
• Requires manual dexterity, mobility, and close visual acuity.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, hazardous equipment, and emergency situations.
• Work may involve irregular hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Continuous physical engagement for shifts of 8 hours, including frequent patient mobilization.
