• Compensation: Starting at $16.45 per hour, based on education and experience.

What You'll Do as a Pre-Registration Specialist

• Verify all demographic and insurance information prior to service.
• Provide estimated service costs and collect or prepare patients to pay on arrival.
• Educate patients on financial policies as necessary.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers.
• Handle interactions in an ethical manner, practicing compassion and respect for each person's dignity and worth.
• Respond quickly and accurately to emergencies in the work environment.
• Support top-tier outcomes for patient experience, quality, and safety.
• Approach work with a bias for action, efficiency, and personal accountability, modeling UNC Health Appalachian's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience:
  • Two years of customer service experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certifications:
  • None required.
• Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to work within the chain of command using positive verbal and non-verbal techniques.
  • Exceptional customer service and a personable approach with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Typing, computer, word processing, and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to coordinate, organize, and manage multiple tasks and details.

Physical & Work Environment

• Prolonged sitting, with periods of standing and walking; frequent bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
• Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 30 lbs; manual dexterity and mobility required.
• Frequent hand, finger, and wrist repetition; near visual acuity and close eye work; speaking, reading, and writing for extended periods.
• Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and hazards from electrical/mechanical equipment.
• Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies.
