As a Pharmacy Technician I at UNC Health Appalachian, you’ll support safe and efficient pharmacy operations by assisting pharmacists with medication preparation, distribution, and customer service. • Compensation: Starting pay begins at $18.13 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.

What You’ll Do as a Pharmacy Technician I

• Assist pharmacists in preparing, packaging, and distributing medications safely and accurately.

• Maintain inventory levels, restock supplies, and assist with medication storage and organization.

• Interact courteously with patients, families, and clinical staff while supporting pharmacy customer service needs.

• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations, hospital policies, and safety standards.

• Support pharmacists and team members in daily workflow, including medication delivery to patient care areas.

• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication in all interactions.

• Follow established procedures for handling hazardous medications and materials.

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

• Retail pharmacy experience considered.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Pharmacy Technician certification preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.

• Competency in safely and accurately filling or preparing medications within the legal scope of practice.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

Physical & Work Environment

• Lift, push, pull, or carry up to and over 50 lbs.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching for extended periods (8 hours per shift).
• Exposure to chemicals, mechanical equipment, and hospital environment risks.
• May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, hazardous substances, and radiation (ionizing/non-ionizing).
• May work variable hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
