Organic Chemistry Laboratory Manager and Teaching Associate

The primary purpose of this position is to prepare supplies and materials for organic chemistry laboratories, maintain the organic chemistry prep room, including chemical inventories and waste management, and to teach up to two organic lab sections during the fall and spring and up to one in each of the two summer sessions. The hiring range for this position is $50,000 to $53,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:
Required

  • BS degree in chemistry.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of organic experimental laboratory techniques, chemical safety procedures, and handling hazardous waste.
  • Familiarity with standard software (e.g., Chemdraw, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Zoom, Learning Management Systems) and demonstrated ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in chemistry or closely related discipline.
  • Teaching experience, especially with teaching organic chemistry at the college level.
  • Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated skills in training students in the operation of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated skills in exercising independent judgement and initiative to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
