Ophthalmic Assistant – Full Time

Umpqua Valley Eye Associates is a growing ophthalmology and optometry practice dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered eye care in a modern and efficient clinical environment. Our team values professionalism, compassion, and teamwork. We serve a high-volume clinic with two ophthalmologists and one optometrist, offering comprehensive eye care and advanced cataract surgery.
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Ophthalmic Assistant to join our clinical team. Prior ophthalmic experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate. This role supports the physicians by preparing patients for their exams, performing diagnostic testing, documenting clinical information, and contributing to smooth clinic flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and room patients; obtain medical and ocular history
- Check visual acuity, pupils, tonometry, and basic ophthalmic measurements
- Perform diagnostic testing, such as OCT, visual fields, topography, IOLMaster, fundus photos (training provided)
- Document accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Prepare patients for in-office procedures; assist as needed
- Maintain exam rooms and equipment
- Support clinic flow and collaborate closely with physicians and fellow technicians
- Provide excellent patient communication and education
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical setting
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
- Comfort working with technology and EMR systems
- High school diploma
Preferred but not required:
- Prior ophthalmic or medical assistant experience
- COA/COT certification
- Experience with EMR systems, iCare tonometry, or ophthalmic imaging systems
