Job Summary: Engineer II
Overview:
This position supports engineering and water management programs under general direction from senior leadership. Responsibilities include planning, design, and oversight of infrastructure projects, water resource planning, grant management, and compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements. The role also involves protecting water rights and managing related records and data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and oversee maintenance and construction of canals, pipelines, pump stations, and recharge areas.
- Prepare plans, specifications, and bidding documents; manage construction projects.
- Develop maps and exhibits using AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
- Manage consultant contracts and prepare RFPs.
- Track and record water flows and diversions; evaluate water supply and demand.
- Research, apply for, and manage grants.
- Review agreements, contracts, and third-party project plans to protect organizational interests.
- Perform environmental and regulatory reviews and prepare related documents.
- Coordinate with agencies and officials to meet project requirements.
- Support implementation and updates of water management plans and sustainability programs.
- Lead certain construction projects and programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in engineering, water resources planning, or water operations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and common office software.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, and regulatory requirements.
- Valid California driver's license required; Professional Engineer license preferred (or ability to obtain within one year).
Skills:
- Detail-oriented, self-starter, and team player with strong technical and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to conduct field visits and occasional travel outside the service area.
